Heather Karns Superintendent

Heather Karns

Heather Karns brings a wealth of educational experience and leadership to Littleton Academy as Superintendent. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from the State University of New York at Fredonia and her Master of Science in Education from Buffalo State College.

Heather's teaching career began in the parochial school system in Orchard Park, NY, where she taught sixth and third grades before moving to North Carolina. In the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District, she taught fourth grade at Belmont Elementary School and expanded her leadership roles, serving as Grade Level PLC Chair, School Improvement Team member and Chair, Technology Facilitator, and Instructional Coach.

 

Her administrative experience includes completing her Principal Residency at Chaloner Middle School, followed by service as an administrator at both Chaloner Middle School and Belmont Elementary School.  

Heather's diverse background in classroom instruction, educational technology, and school leadership uniquely positions her to guide Littleton Academy's mission of igniting minds through experiential learning and personalized education.

Principal

Renee Mizelle

Mrs. Mizelle joined Littleton Academy following a 30 year career with Warren County Schools. Mrs. Mizelle brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her previous positions as elementary teacher, Reading Coach, district-wide Literacy Coordinator and Principal.
 

Mrs. Mizelle’s passion is helping teachers who in turn help students grow into life-long learners.
 

Mrs. Mizelle received her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College.
 

She received her graduate degree in School Administration from North Carolina State University.
 

Mrs. Mizelle has written curriculum for the North Carolina Teacher Academy. She is a professional development trainer for two educational programs: DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) and Fundations.
